Marketing Link Status in Velveteen

Updated August 27, 2026

The short answer

A Velveteen marketing link has four possible statuses: Requested, Building, Live, or Failed. Release-day links are normally available immediately, while pre-save links move through Requested and Building as destinations are prepared. A Failed status means creation did not complete; review the release details and use the available retry action.

The status tells you whether a link is ready to share. Here is what each one means and what to do.

The four statuses

Requested

The link has been requested and is queued to build. This applies mainly to pre-save links.

Building

The link is being prepared. It is not ready to share yet.

Live

The link is ready. Copy it and share it.

Failed

The build did not complete. You can retry it from the Links page.

What to do at each step

  1. 1

    Requested or Building

Wait. The Links page updates as the link progresses. Pre-save links can take a little time.
  2. 2

    Live

Copy the link and start sharing. A release-day link can also open in the vlvtn editor.
  3. 3

    Failed

Use the retry action to request the build again. If it keeps failing, contact support.

Tip

Release-day links are minted instantly, so they usually appear as Live without passing visibly through Requested or Building.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my pre-save link not Live yet?+

Pre-save links build in the background, so they sit at Requested or Building until the build finishes.

What does Failed mean?+

The link could not be built. Retry it from the Links page, and contact support if it keeps failing.

How do I retry?+

On the Links page, a failed link offers a retry action that requests the build again.

Why was my link Live immediately?+

Release-day links are created instantly, so they show as Live as soon as you make one.
