How to Create a Link in Velveteen

Updated August 4, 2026

The short answer

Open Marketing, then Links, and click Create link. Choose a page type. Pre-save asks you to choose a catalog release and sends a request into Requested and Building. Release lets you choose a Velveteen release or enter details manually, then opens the smartlink editor where you can finish the page and choose Draft or Published.

The Links dialog now supports more than release promotion. Choose Pre-save for a managed pre-release request, Release for a listening page, or another page type when the destination is a playlist, artist, link in bio, email signup, or download.

Choose a page type

Pre-save

Request a managed pre-save page for a catalog release before release day. It is prepared asynchronously.

Release

Create a listening page for a release. You can use a Velveteen release or start manually.

Playlist

Build a page for sharing a playlist across listening platforms.

Artist

Build a focused page for an artist or project.

Link in bio

Collect social, store, video, and campaign links in one page.

Email signup or Download

Create a page for collecting fan emails or delivering a file after a fan action.

Create a pre-save link

  1. 1

    Open the Links page

Go to Marketing, then Links, in the dashboard.
  2. 2

    Choose a workspace if needed

If you manage more than one workspace, select the artist or label workspace that owns the release before creating the link.
  3. 3

    Choose Pre-save

Click Create link, choose Pre-save, and select the catalog release you want fans to pre-save.
  4. 4

    Request the build

Use Request a pre-save. The request enters Requested, then Building, and becomes Live when the managed page is ready.
  5. 5

    Share it when Live

Copy the live URL from the Links page and share it before release day. A pre-save request is not ready to share while it is still Requested or Building.

Create a Release link

  1. 1

    Choose Release

Click Create link and choose Release. The dialog then asks whether to use a Velveteen release or start manually.
  2. 2

    Select the release source

For a catalog release, choose Use a Velveteen release and select the item shown in the picker. For a page outside the catalog, choose Start manually.
  3. 3

    Open the editor

Complete the details and create the link. Velveteen opens the smartlink editor, where the Content, Design, Settings, Links, and Stats tabs are available.
  4. 4

    Choose publication

In Settings, keep the page in Draft while you work or switch it to Published when anyone with the URL should be able to open it.

Create another page type

  1. 1

Choose Playlist, Artist, Link in bio, Email signup, or Download

Select the page type that matches the fan action you want the page to support.
  2. 2

    Complete the detail form

The dialog opens the fields for that page type. Add the requested title and destination details, then create the page.
  3. 3

    Finish in the editor

After creation, use the smartlink editor to adjust content, design, links, settings, or stats for the page.

Checks before you create

Catalog access

When you use a Velveteen release, choose an item shown in the catalog picker. The managed pre-save request also checks your permission on that release.

Account restriction

A restricted account cannot request a managed pre-save until the restriction is resolved.

Existing pre-save

A release can have one active managed pre-save. If one already exists, open that pre-save instead of creating another.

What happens next

Pre-save requests use the statuses Requested, Building, Live, and Failed. A Failed request can be retried from the Links page. Smartlinks use their own Draft or Published setting, so creating a Release page and publishing its public URL are separate steps.

Tip

If you are preparing a release campaign, use Pre-save before release day and a Release page when you need a listening destination. The two workflows have different build and publication states.

Frequently asked questions

Which page types can I create from the Links page?+

The Create link dialog offers Pre-save, Release, Playlist, Artist, Link in bio, Email signup, and Download.

Does creating a Release page publish it immediately?+

No publication promise is implied by creation. The Release flow opens the smartlink editor, where Settings shows Draft or Published and the public URL becomes available when the page is published.

Why can I not create another pre-save for the same release?+

The managed pre-save workflow rejects a second active request for the same release and kind. Open the existing request from the Links page instead.

What happens if a pre-save request fails?+

The request shows Failed in the Links page. Use Retry to submit the build request again, and contact support if it keeps failing.

What if my account is restricted?+

A restricted account cannot request a managed pre-save. Resolve the restriction, then try the request again.
