Custom Labels in Velveteen
Updated October 14, 2026
Custom labels let eligible accounts use their own label name in Velveteen. Pro, Label, and eligible legacy plans can create custom labels. Free and Artist accounts use their assigned default label path.
Custom labels are plan-gated because they affect delivery metadata and copyright text.
Plan behavior
Free and Artist
Use assigned label behavior and may have locked copyright text.
Pro
Can create and use custom labels.
Label
Can create custom labels and use label team features.
Legacy plans
LegacyArtist, LegacyPro, and LegacyLabel are included in the custom label gate.
Release creation behavior
If the account cannot use a provided custom label, Velveteen resolves the default release label for the user.
Managed label users are forced onto their managed label.
A real label can only be attached by an active label member or a user with label permission. If a release owner requests an unrelated real label, the exact release-label invitation must be accepted before the release can be submitted.
