Audio Files and Previews in Velveteen
Updated June 23, 2026
Every distributed track needs an audio file, a valid duration, and preview settings. Velveteen checks that audio exists, that duration is at least 30 seconds, and that the preview window fits inside the track. You can upload from your device, choose a supported file with Dropbox Chooser, or import from a connected Google Drive account.
The audio file is the recording stores receive. Preview settings tell downstream surfaces which part of the track to expose as a sample.
How to add audio
- 1
Open the track
Go to the track detail page and open the Audio tab. - 2
Upload or import
Drag a WAV, FLAC, or AIFF file into the upload area, click to browse your device, use Import from Dropbox to choose a file in Dropbox, or use Import from Google Drive after connecting Drive. Larger cloud files show transfer stages while Velveteen downloads and saves them. - 3
Wait for the save
Velveteen stores the file, records the filename, size, and duration, then refreshes the track.
Tip
Audio checks
Audio file
The track needs audio_url before submission. The Audio tab accepts WAV, FLAC, AIFF, and AIF files.
Duration
If duration is known, Velveteen requires at least 30 seconds.
Preview start
The time where the preview begins.
Preview length
The preview duration. Start plus length must not exceed total duration.
When audio locks
Once a release is submitted, Velveteen locks the linked tracks.
That lock protects the submitted delivery package from changing after review starts.
