Taking Down a Release in Velveteen

Updated June 21, 2026

The short answer

You can take your catalog down from stores at any time using the self-service takedown in Velveteen Settings. The process sets all of your live releases to PENDING_TAKEDOWN and Velveteen handles the removal from stores.

Taking down a release is permanent once the DSPs process the removal. Use the self-service path when you want to leave Velveteen or remove all active catalog. For single-release removals, contact support.

How to take down your catalog

  1. 1

    Open Settings

Go to Settings in the Velveteen dashboard.
  2. 2

    Find the Leaving Velveteen section

Scroll to the section at the bottom of the Settings page.
  3. 3

    Click Take down my catalog

A confirmation dialog explains what will happen. Read it before confirming.
  4. 4

    Confirm

Once you confirm, Velveteen sets all of your live releases to PENDING_TAKEDOWN and begins the removal process.

Heads up

Takedowns affect all of your live releases at once. If you want to remove only specific releases, contact support at support@velveteen.fm before using this tool.

Takedown states

PENDING_TAKEDOWN

Velveteen has received the takedown request and the removal is in progress. The release still exists in your catalog.

TAKEN_DOWN

The release has been removed from stores. It remains in your catalog as a record but is no longer available to listeners.

What to expect

Velveteen processes the request and coordinates with FUGA and the DSPs. Removal is not instant. Most stores process takedowns within a few business days, but timing varies by platform.

Once a release is taken down, it stops earning royalties. Any royalty balance you have accrued before the takedown remains in your account and can still be requested as a payout.

Tip

If you change your mind after clicking confirm but before the DSPs finish processing, contact support as quickly as possible. Once DSPs complete the removal, it cannot be reversed through self-service.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take down a single release instead of my whole catalog?+

The self-service tool takes down all live releases at once. For a single-release takedown, contact support at support@velveteen.fm.

What happens to my royalty balance when I take down my catalog?+

Your earned royalty balance stays in your account. You can still request a payout after a takedown. The minimum payout threshold still applies.

Will my music disappear immediately?+

No. The PENDING_TAKEDOWN state begins immediately, but DSPs take a few business days to process the removal. During that window, your music may still be streamable.

Can I re-release the same music after a takedown?+

Yes. Taking down a release does not delete your catalog from Velveteen. If you decide to re-release, contact support to discuss the process.

Does a takedown cancel my Velveteen subscription?+

No. A catalog takedown and a subscription cancellation are separate actions. Manage your subscription under Billing in Settings.
