How to Tag Merch to a Spotify Release
Publish the item to Spotify from your connected Shopify store first. In Spotify for Artists on the web, open Merch & Events, choose Manage item, search for the album, EP or single, then select the release and save. Check the listener-facing release page and Now Playing view before announcing the merch.

Choose the product that belongs with the recording
Start with the listener who just pressed play. If the product is a vinyl edition of that album, the match is easy to explain. If it is a shirt from a different album cycle, check whether the product photo and title would make sense alongside the current artwork.
Save the Spotify release URL and the product URL in your launch notes. If your album and deluxe edition share a name, add the release artwork or date to the note so the person tagging the item can find the right one.
Keep profile pinning separate. The Artist Pick guide covers what you feature on the profile. This setup starts with a release and the product connected to it.
Publish the item before looking for the release tag
Open the Shopify product and check that it is published to the Spotify sales channel. If it has several variants, review the variant you expect a fan to buy. Check the image, price and availability on the product page. Spotify says an item can take up to an hour to appear after publishing.
In Spotify for Artists on the web, confirm you are on the intended artist team. Open Merch & Events and find the product. If it is absent, check the Shopify channel and the artist connection before creating another product entry.
Choose Manage item, search for the intended release, select it and choose Done. Compare the selection with the saved release URL. If you tag an album, Spotify says the item can appear in Now Playing for its tracks as well as on the album page.
A release tag plan for River Signal
| Placement | What to verify | |
|---|---|---|
| Original LP | Tag River Signal vinyl to the original album. | Check the product title and confirm the store lists the original track sequence. |
| Deluxe edition | Keep the original vinyl tag off the digital deluxe edition. | Open the deluxe page and check it does not imply the bonus tracks are on the LP. |
| Release shirt | Tag the shirt to the album and its lead single if both carry the same artwork. | Open each release separately. Check the product and available sizes. |
Save the inventory owner beside the two URLs. When the vinyl sells out or the fulfillment date changes, that person should update the store and verify what fans now see. The independent merch guide covers the stock and pricing work behind that offer.

Frequently asked questions
Can I tag one item to several releases?+
Spotify lets you select multiple releases for an item. Check each selection against the product. An album shirt may make sense on a single from that album, while a format-specific item may need a narrower placement.
What if the product title already matches my album?+
Spotify may show the product automatically when the names match. Its documentation says manual tags take priority. Use a manual selection when the edition matters, then confirm what a listener sees.
Is tagging the same as pinning in the Merch tab?+
A pin places the item near the top of your profile's Merch tab. A release tag connects it to a specific release page and the listening view. Choose the control that reaches the intended listener.
Who handles an order problem?+
Spotify's merch guidelines put fulfillment and customer support with the artist or merch partner. Make sure the store gives buyers a way to reach the people who can fix an order.
