Frequently asked questions

What is a split sheet?+

A one-page document that records who owns what percentage of a song, on both the songwriting (publishing) side and the recording (master) side. Everyone signs it so the percentages are settled in writing before the song earns anything.

When should I make one?+

Before you release, ideally right after the session while everyone remembers who did what. Splits are much easier to agree on before money is involved, and a signed sheet is what lets a PRO or distributor pay each collaborator correctly.

What's the difference between master and publishing splits?+

The master split covers the recording itself and usually goes to whoever made or paid for it. The publishing split covers the underlying song (melody, chords, lyrics) and goes to the writers. They are separate, and they do not have to be equal.

Does this need an account or store my split sheet?+

No. It runs in your browser, saves nothing on a server, and needs no signup.
