The short answer

Host a Bandcamp Listening Party by selecting a public album, opening the scheduling option in its album editor, and entering your event details. Preview the event before sharing its link. Check the complete album audio, allow processing time for updates, choose who can join the chat, and arrange for someone to host the conversation.

Which releases can have a Bandcamp Listening Party?

A public album on your Bandcamp page can have a Listening Party, including an album offered as a pre-order. Bandcamp describes these as free, audio-only events where fans listen together and join a chat. The album must be less than 24 hours long.

The ordinary event setup does not accept a standalone track or a private album. Start with the release you intend to share and confirm its state before announcing a date. Bandcamp's setup instructions cover the current album-based route.

Use the Bandcamp guide for artists for the wider storefront. If this is an advance listen, keep your public release plan beside the event plan with the Bandcamp pre-order guide.

What audio will fans hear at the party?

They will hear every track published with the album, including bonus tracks and tracks you have not enabled for ordinary album-page previews. You cannot choose a smaller selection for the party or rely on your preview settings to hide an unfinished song.

Review the complete pre-order album

Before scheduling an early listen, confirm that everyone responsible for the release is comfortable exposing the full uploaded album. A public pre-order with one preview track can still contain audio you intended to keep unheard until release day.

Open the album editor and check the order, correct mix or master, bonus material, and start and end of each uploaded file. Listen to transitions as well. A wrong file in the middle of the album will interrupt the experience even if the first track sounds right.

Bandcamp's Listening Party FAQ recommends uploading or updating audio at least two hours before the event. Leave more room when you can. That recommendation gives processing time; it is not a guarantee that a late replacement will finish in time.

How do you schedule and preview the event?

Open the album editor and choose schedule listening party. Bandcamp also documents a route through the + add menu, where you select an album. Confirm that you are working with the intended release before entering the event information.

  1. Choose the album and the time for your event.
  2. Write a brief description of what fans will hear and what you will be doing in chat.
  3. Preview the event in the Listening Party Editor and check the album art and details.
  4. Complete the scheduling controls, then check the resulting event page and copy its link.
  5. Keep the event address, date, time zone, and hosting responsibility together in your release notes.

Give the invitation a time zone that means something to your audience. Check the time shown on the actual event page before you publish your own announcement. If a teammate is elsewhere, compare the date as well as the hour. Do not assume a calendar note and the event editor describe the same local time.

Test the copied event link from outside your artist editing session. Ask a teammate to read the invitation and follow that exact link on a phone. They should reach the intended album event without needing your working notes to understand it.

Who can listen, and who can type in chat?

Bandcamp's event overview says anyone with the link can tune in to an ordinary Listening Party. Chat has its own access rules, so make those clear when inviting people who are new to Bandcamp.

Listening and chatting are separate actions

Optional restrictionThe ordinary event is free to listen toSupporter-only Chat limits participation to fans who bought something from you
What your invitation should explainWhich album, which event link, and when it startsWhether chat is open to all logged-in fans or supporters only

The chat instructions say you can change Supporter-only Chat in the Listening Party Editor or Chat Settings panel, including during the event. Choose the setting intentionally. An invitation aimed at first-time listeners can be confusing if it implies everyone will be able to post and the chat is restricted.

Decide who will watch the conversation, answer practical questions, and explain any chat-setting change. Prepare a short welcome and a few specific things you would enjoy discussing about the recording. You can keep those prompts in your working notes without turning the chat into a stream of promotional posts.

What happens when the scheduled time arrives?

Bandcamp starts the album automatically and plays through the tracks. The host cannot pause, stop, or skip around during the Listening Party. Plan introductions and questions around that uninterrupted running order.

Arrive early enough to check your event page and settle into the conversation. Keep a copy of the track order handy so you know which song fans are hearing. If you want to tell a recording story, prepare it beside that song in your notes instead of planning to stop the music and speak over it.

A practical plan for an advance album listen

Constructed event plan

Amber Signal is an imaginary artist hosting the 42-minute pre-order album Glass Rooms. The event is planned for 18:00 America/Vancouver. The artist finishes audio checks by 15:00, plans to arrive at 17:45, and tells the team they will stay until 19:00.

That plan gives the artist a chosen three-hour buffer for the audio and a named period to host. Playback would finish at about 18:42 if it starts as planned, leaving time for the artist to answer questions afterwards. These are working times for the example, not Bandcamp's required host schedule.

Before sharing the event, the team confirms that hearing the whole pre-order is intentional. A teammate checks the link and reads the planned invitation on a phone. The artist prepares a few notes about making the record and confirms which chat setting the invitation describes.

Plan the event announcement alongside your other release messages

Afterwards, keep a short note of practical problems: confusing timing, an outdated link, audio that needed correction, or questions fans repeatedly asked. Use those observations to improve the next invitation. Keep actual purchases or other campaign results separate from guesses about what the party caused.

If you are also sending permanent complimentary copies, the album download-code guide covers that separate handoff.

Frequently asked questions

Can I schedule another Listening Party for the same album?+

Bandcamp currently allows one scheduled event per album at a time. Wait until the existing event has passed before scheduling another party for that album.

Can I change the party's colors without changing my album artwork?+

Bandcamp bases the event's main image and background gradient on the album artwork. Its FAQ says you cannot independently customize that look without changing the art associated with the album. Review the existing artwork in the event preview before deciding whether anything needs changing.

Can I turn my camera on during a Listening Party?+

Listening Parties focus on album audio. Bandcamp points creators who need video toward its separate Bandcamp Live offering. Plan the party conversation through chat rather than promising a camera appearance within this audio event.

How long does the chat stay open after the album?+

Bandcamp says the chat remains open for one hour after the last song finishes. Tell fans how long you personally plan to stay so an open chat is not mistaken for a promise that the artist will remain there for the whole period.
